BEN OLSON |
The 2006 class is led by a strong QB
class and an excellent DT class.
At the top is Ben Olson, Olson is
a big, tall pocket passer who some are saying is another Peyton Manning.
Joining him in this class of signal callers are some great athletes. Two
hail from the Lone Star state. Reggie McNeal and Vincent Young's measurables
speak for themselves but these guys have been doing it on the field as
well. McNeal is being touted at several different positions but it is likely
he will be behind center for Texas A&M as he committed to the Aggies.
Another QB who can play at other |
spots include Warwick's Marcus Vick. Just like his brother Michael, Marcus
is an outstanding athlete and many recruiters feel he would make a better
wideout in college but if Marcus keeps passing the way he does it'll be
hard to move him. Behind these QBs is a strong Running Back crop. They
range from the big feature backs like Florida committ Ciatrick Fason or
Gerald Riggs Jr, to all purpose backs like Michael Johnson or the "Faulk-like"
Lorenzo Booker. The wideout crop lacks a clear star but there are some
athletes here. Ryan Moore is widely considered the top prep WR. He has
great height and sticky hands. He will likely stay in state. Moore may
be the most polished but the most talented probably is Maurice Stovall
who is 6'5 and runs a 4.3.
Up front, Justin Blalock is a
cereberal player who already thinks like an NFL player and Winston Justice
who is a mammoth athlete who is the prototype NFL left tackle. Going up
against those guys are a great group of defensive linemen. There are the
big gap pluggers like 320 lb Rodrique Wright, Justice's teammate 6'7 Manuel
Wright and Michigan committ Gabe Watson who has been compared to Darrell
Russell. Then there are the pass rushers, Kai Parham, Brian Pickryll and
Kamerion Wimberly and last are those freaks of nature: Larry Dibbles who
runs a 4.58 forty and Marco Martin, who at 6'4, 300 lbs, doubles as a halfback
for Mesquite. WOW! Complementing the inside guys are the outside pass rushers.
Kai Parham is a great athlete on the outside and he looks like he would
be the perfect rush linebacker in a 3-4. The same can be said for Kamerion
Wimberly, an outstanding athlete who looks like he will carry on the tradition
of DEs at Florida State.
The Linebackers are a talented group. AJ Nicholson
is a game changer with 4.4 speed and great linebacker instincts. Speaking
of great athletes, Berkely Hutchinson could be a QB in college, if he wasn't
such
a great linebacker. Mike D'Andrea has a reputation as a big hitter
and Ahmad Brooks and Ricardo Hurley also rank among the nation's best.
The defensive backfield is a collection of
outstanding athletes. Leon Washington is the consumate cover corner, he
has phenominal 4.27 speed and is just simply, a great athlete. One of the
most talented programs in America is Talahassee Lincoln and this year is
no exception. Safety Pat Watkins stands 6'4 and runs a 4.45. He's an imposing
figure back in the secondary and may eventually grow into a Linebacker
position. Darren Williams of Clarksdale, MS is another outstanding athlete.
He plays several positions for Clarksdale but he will be a S in college.
Darnell Bing (another guy from Long Beach Poly) has linebacker size (6'2,
220) but has defensive back coverage skills.
