The Sophomore has some really great players and then some prospects who are just that... prospects who have yet to prove themselves when it counts.
Texas' Roy Williams has proven himself for the most part. Though he still does not play physically enough and doesn't go 100% all the time, he still has a 6'5 frame and sprinters speed. He is an easy comparison to Randy Moss. He leads a great group of receivers. Kelly Washington has become on of the
SEC's most feared receivers. He has the size and speed to be a force at the next level. Michigan State's Charlie Rogers is a redshirt who was academically ineligible last year. This year he is showing why many recruiting experts had his rated as the top prep WR in the country. Williams' teammate BJ Johnson is overshadowed by his more flashy counterpart but Johnson is very talented in his own right and UCLA's Tab Perry has used his big frame to step in nicely for Freddie Mitchell. A couple of players to watch are Marshall's speedy Darius Watts and Syracuse's physical Johnnie Morant. The top Tight End is Stanford's Teyo Johnson. At 6'7 he has great size but runs as well as most wideouts. He has Tony Gonzalez type abilities. The running backs have some potential feature backs. Marcus Houston has flashed Eric Dickerson type running skills but has not stayed healthy long enough to become a real factor. Maimi's Willis McGahee has had to wait his turn but many say he is the most physically talented back on the Miami roster.  The QB position has several mid-late 1st round types but doesn't look like it has that top 5 franchise QB. The closest guy to that is Casey Clausen. He's big and has a nice arm but still needs work technically. He is also still too inconsistent. Phillip Rivers is another guy with nice size. He was very good as a freshman but has dropped off just a bit without his go-to guy Koren Robinson. A potential sleeper is Jackson State's Robert Kent. He has great size (6'5) and has thrown the ball very well his first two seasons. The O-Line has a couple of blue chips in monstrous Kwame Harris and athletic Antonio Hall. Harris has been compared to former Cardinal Bob Whitfield looks like he's going to be an excellent Left Tackle prospect.
On defense, up front, the top player is Arizona State's Terrell Suggs. Suggs is an athletic pass rusher who has shown the ability to create havoc in the backfield. Memphis' Albert Means after all the controversy is showing the talent that made his one of the country's most sought after prep players. Two other talented prep players who have yet to show themselves in college are Florida's Darrell Lee and FSU's Travis Johnson. Two pass rushers that have made an impact are Oklahoma's Jimmy Wilkerson and Stanford's Amon Gordon. Wilkerson leads the nation in tackles for a loss. He has great athleticism and Gordon has used his size and grat strength to become a froce for the Cardinal. At Linebacker, Miam's DJ Williams was the nation's top prep player, after toiling for a year at FB, he is finally back to his natural position of LB.
The secondary lacks a star but Okalhoma's Derrick Strait and Purdue's Stuart Schweigert have performed very well. Strait has great coverage skills and is key part of the OU defense. Schweigert has played at an All-American level for the Boilermakers. He's not necessarily the best athlete but he plays smart and is rarely out of position.
